We Give Back to Our Community
Community service is important to Mehlman Law Group. We are members of both the Walnut Creek Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau and the Concord Chamber of Commerce. Steven Mehlman volunteers for the Walnut Creek Chamber of Commerce on its Education Committee which puts on programs, including two Ethics Days for local high schools and middle schools, and Career Day for local high school students.
Steven Mehlman also serves as the Las Lomas High School Mock Trial Team Attorney Coach. This program, sponsored by the Contra Costa County Board of Education and the Constitutional Rights Foundation, involves high school students throughout California learning to put on a trial involving important rights contained in the Bill of Rights of the United States Constitution. In addition to coaching the Mock Trial team at Las Lomas High School, Steven Mehman also coaches the high school speech and debate team.
Steven Mehlman, along with his high school age daughter, also coaches tennis for the Special Olympics of Northern California for the tri-valley area of Contra Costa and Alameda Counties. They have successfully helped athletes with special needs enjoy tennis, which Steve and his daughters also participate in through USTA leagues and his daughter's high school tennis team.
Mr. Mehlman is also on the teaching staff of the paralegal program at California State University East Bay, where he has taught Legal Research and Writing to new paralegals.
In the recent past, Mr. Mehlman has served on the Contra Costa Planning Commission (2001-2006); the City of Walnut Creek Planning Commission (1989-1996); the Board of Directors and Land Committee for Save Mount Diablo a non-profit land trust (1994-2006); Walnut Creek Transportation Commission (1984-1989); the Contra Costa Transit Authority Citizen Advisory Committee (1985-1989); the City of Walnut Creek Creekside Master Plan Task Force and Friends of the Creeks Board of Directors (1995-1998); and the Heather Farms Homeowners Association Board of Directors (1985-1991). From Mr. Mehlman's experience in city and county planning as well as environmental non-profit corporations, he has developed substantial expertise in land use, from both legal and practical perspectives.
